Derf Backderf was ten years old in 1970 and uses his firsthand memories of seeing the National Guardsmen patrolling his hometown streets as well as extensive research and personal interviews to form his graphic novel, Kent State: four dead in Ohio, which "is a moving and troubling story about the bitter price of dissent—as relevant today as it was in 1970."
